Sharmans Cross Junior School School Prospectus - page 27

Sharmans Cross Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and
expects all adults to share this commitment
Therefore on days when your child does planned physical activity, either in or out of
school we would ask that such items are not worn. Should your child not be able to
remove the earrings themselves, they will not be allowed to participate. If this is
repeated again, the class teacher will ask parents in to school to discuss the matter
further. Details of when your child does planned physical activity in school will be in
their Home/School Diaries. Should this not be the case, please check with your
child’s class teacher.
We would also encourage parents not to have children’s ears pierced during the
school year, given the difficulties in keeping the area clean, free from infection and
removing the earring. We would strongly recommend that the first week of the
summer holidays is the best time for this to happen, giving the wound time to heal
before school recommences.
SCHOOL MEALS
Cooked meals are served in the School Hall and are freshly prepared on the premises.
Children are offered a choice of menu and meals are cooked and attractively
presented.
The charge per meal, £1.90 at present, is set by the Solihull Schools’ Catering
Service. Children are supervised by midday supervisors who are directly responsible
to the Headteacher. Children must accept the rules laid down otherwise parents will
be informed and asked to make alternative arrangements for their child at
dinnertime.
If at any time you wish to enquire about the provision of free meals, please contact
Mrs Trumper, Administrative Assistant, and details will be provided in confidence.
WATER IN SCHOOL
Medical research has shown that children need to drink at least 3-4 glasses of water
per day while at school and even more when exercising or in warm weather. The links
between drinking water and health are well known:
• Drinking water throughout the day is an important way of protecting health and
contributing to well-being.
• Drinking plenty of water can help to prevent a range of short and long-term health
problems such as headaches, bladder and bowel problems.
