Sharmans Cross Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and
expects all adults to share this commitment
Bullying
At Sharmans Cross we are committed to providing a caring, friendly and safe
environment for all our pupils so they can learn in a relaxed and secure atmosphere.
Bullying of any kind is unacceptable at our school. If bullying does occur, all pupils
should be able to tell and know that incidents will be dealt with promptly and
effectively. We are a TELLING school. This means that anyone who knows that
bullying is happening is expected to tell the staff.
We consider bullying to be the use of aggressive behaviours with the explicit
intention of hurting another person. Bullying results in pain and distress to the
victim.
We seek to involve parents at the earliest opportunity aiming to support children who
are being bullied or the bully. The first point of contact for parents is the class
teacher. In working with parents we stress that they should not give permission for
bullying.
We seek to provide support for the victim and the bully, recognising that there are
often real reasons why a child takes either role and that often bullies can also be
victims. However, if necessary we are prepared to invoke the full range of sanctions
that are detailed in the school's Behaviour Policy.
These include;
•
Removal from the group
•
Break and lunch time detentions
•
'Time Outs'
•
Withholding participation in school events that are not an essential part of the
Curriculum
•
In extreme cases, fixed term and permanent exclusion may be necessary in
cases of severe and persistent bullying.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
A wide range of school uniform is available to purchase from Early Years on the
Stratford Road. Children are required to wear uniform throughout their attendance
at school. We encourage the children to take a pride in their appearance, within
school, on visits and on their way to and from school as they are our representatives.
It is a tribute to them that positive comments are generally made when they visit
places and we are favourably received because of their good manners and
presentation.
