HOMEWORK POLICY
We believe that homework should provide children with the opportunities to develop
enjoyment of and a commitment to learning. It must help pupils to develop the
important skills of independent study and self-discipline, as well as teaching them
that school is not the only place for learning. We also believe that through
homework we can provide the day to day links between home and school by helping
parents to understand what their children are learning in school whilst also
encouraging them to participate in that learning. Above all, we believe that the child
is responsible for the completion and management of their homework.
Homework that is set weekly by the class teacher will always be appropriate to the
child and the topic / theme for the week. It could be in the form of games,
independent research based, discussion based e.g. speaking and listening, debate
preparation, persuasion, a question or idea that has been researched at home, on-
going target based homework focused on throughout the term, online activities such
as Knowledge box, Education City or MyMaths even practical activities, such as
cooking or shopping.
Homework is communicated to the children in
class by their teacher and is often written down
in the child’s Home/School Diary. This diary can
also be used for communication between the
parents and the teacher and vice versa. It can
also be a useful log for children to record their
own thinking on the homework and their success
with it. Homework can also be found each week
via the Class Pages of the school website.
